BTCO Earthdog events
The Border Terrier was originally bred to run with the foxhounds and flush the foxes out of their dens. Anyone who is familiar with the breed knows that they are a true terrier and chase just about anything that moves, be it a cat, squirrel, chipmunk, mouse and even the dreaded skunk. Go-to-ground events are a way to test the working ability of the dog.

Saturday, Bev Ferguson and Mike Taggart organized and cooked a very delicious BBQ lunch for everyone. The evening Pot Luck dinner was a tremendous success, it was provided for the judges and volunteers giving them the opportunity to relax and share stories, and we know every Earth dogger has a story to tell.Pat Dimitrovski and Linda Hough manned a very successful raffle table which was opened on the training day with the draw taking place at the completion of the tests. There were a lot of beautiful items available to bid on, thank you to all who donated to the table. A big thank you to our judges, who participated on the training day for their patience and for sharing their knowledge. And, of course the exhibitors who made this Earthdog weekend a great success. Also, a big thank you to all of our wonderful hardworking volunteers, you are who makes this possible. To Pam Dyer for her expertise and knowledge. Shawna Froese did an exceptionally wonderful job as her first time in the Test Secretary’s position. Thank you, Shawna it was a pleasure, working with you.A huge Thank You and shout out to Jane and Mike Toner for so generously allowing the two clubs the use of their beautiful property, and for all the extra work you did preparing the property, it is and was appreciated.Last but not least, a special thank you too my husband Ed who provided us with his Polaris side by side 'Ranger' for transportation of the ED liners and judges to the test sites. Also, for making and donating posts and fencing and taking on the task of liner upgrade and maintenance for our October trials. We are looking forward to seeing you all then. However, it is a fun thing to dowith your dog. (No experience required).A raffle table will be on going from Saturday morning until noon Sunday when the drawwill take place. Bring $$$ and buy tickets the sale of the tickets supports your club.Sadly this will be the final Earthdog event to be held at the Mairs’ property. The BTCOand BTC have jointly purchased the Earthdog liners from Mr. & Mrs. Mairs. However, Jane and Mike Toner have kindly volunteered their property for futureEarthdog tests; this venue is located on Lakeridge Rd North of Uxbridge. The new venue as now been prepared and groomed ready for holding Earthdog testsand, including the Funday event. Thank you to Jane Toner, Pam Dyer, Pat Dimitrovski,Linda Hough, Ed Holder, Adam Sproxton the machine operator for answering my call forhelp. Pam and Anna drove in from Kingston on the Friday, arriving at 1:30 and campedovernight leaving approximately by 11:30 Saturday.Grass was cut, Den’s measured and lines painted (and Linda’s pants) in preparation forthe machine operator who arrived Saturday morning at 7:30 and the trenches were dugby 10:30 ish.
In 2022 we had several volunteers who are Cairn Terrier people, one couple no longerown a dog. Abby Lorenzen and her neighbour (who is a cat person) worked very hardwith the set up the night before the event. Even Abby’s 6 year old son helped to cleanout the trenches, and he did work hard.We will be asking for gate stewards, rat stewards. I have received contact from fourvolunteers all non Border Terrier people who are willing to help out.In 2022 the Club’s had to pay 2 young men for removing the liners from the trenchesafter the event concluded. This is your money.
When you, the club members read this report Please Note The number of NON members of the BTC &BTCO who gave up their time to make YOUR event happen and they worked very hard on your behalf.(A little guilt trip )
